About Jamar:
Jamar Earl Jamal Hopkins, better known as Jamar Townshipsol or simply as “JAM,” started his journey in 1989 in the streets of Oakland, Ca. Through guidance from his mom and local street legends, he started on a 30-year journey of street dance, art and HIP HOP CULTURE. This journey would send him to travel to different places and study in a mixture of urban dance styles. From Popping, Locking, Bboying, House to martial arts, experimenting with traditional American dance forms, and along with his natural sense to include influences, Jamar developed his ever-growing “TOWNSHIPSOL” style.
As a founding member of Bay Area Beats “n” Pieces dance crew, Jamar has worked with Sony PlayStation, Yahoo!, and Miller Brewing Co. This has led to opportunities to work with legends such as Outkast, N.E.R.D, Common, The Beasties Boys, Fat Boy Slim, and The Roots. He has been featured in music videos, commercials, television shows, and radio shows within Boston and the Bay Area. He has amassed a collection of competition solo wins as well as acknowledgements for performances with his local Bay Area & Boston crews.
Jamar has worked with all ages and experience levels sharing Townshipsol from the Bay Area to Boston from youth empowerment courses to schools/after-school-programs to dance studios. He leaves his influence of urban dance culture and unforgettable personality where-ever he goes. From living in Boston and joining the legendary Floor Lords crew, he entertains and teaches his signature style all while empowering the youth with words of wisdom and cultural awareness. He continues to perform and showcase in the Bay Area for a number of local talents such as Too Short, Hieroglyphics, and non-profit organizations All The Way Live, Inqilinos Boricuas en Accion, and the Summer Institute for the Gifted.
